It’s time for #6degrees. Start at the same place as other wonderful readers, add six books, and see where you end up.
This month we begin with the novella, Seascraper, by Benjamin Wood.
The descriptions of the shore and tides in Seascraper were exquisite. I’m hoping for similarly outstanding writing when I pick up a book that’s in my ‘must read this year’ stack – The Place of Tides by James Redbanks.
Also in this stack (there are ten books in the stack – will I get there before the year is out?) is another with a watery title – All the Way to the River by Elizabeth Gilbert.
The cover of Gilbert’s book reminded me immediately of Lily King’s Euphoria. I read it years ago and loved it.
Coincidentally, also in the ‘read it before 2025 is out’ is Lily King’s latest, Heart the Lover.
One of the characters in Heart the Lover appeared in her last novel, Writers & Lovers.
Using ‘lovers’ as a theme, I recently read a sample of Esther Freud’s My Sister and Other Lovers (which coincidentally is also the continuation of characters introduced in an earlier novel).
Where will other chains go? Link up below or post your link in the comments section.
Next month (January 3, 2026) is a wildcard to begin the year. Start with the book you finished this month’s chain with (or, if you didn’t participate in December, begin with the last book you read).
You cheeky thing!! But I think the one I ended on gives me many opportunities. Maybe too many! Here’s my chain which had a strong theme through it of borders, crossings, transitions. https://whisperinggums.com/2025/12/06/six-degrees-of-separation-from-we-have-always-lived-in-the-castle-to-2/
A bit heavier than your lovers!!
Ten books to read before the end of the year? Good luck.
I haven’t read anything by Lily King so have added her to my list – will see what my library has in stock.

Here’s mine, a little scrappy because I have a post about Dante to do and we have guests coming for dinner to share a magnum that we won in a competition…

Oh, good one. Hm… I have to think about how I’ll do the next chain. Here’s mine https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2025/12/06/tcls-6degrees-of-separation-for-december-6-2025/
Enjoyed reading your chain. It will be fun with everyone starting with different books in January!
Here’s mine for this month: https://portobellobookblog.com/2025/12/06/6degrees-of-separation-for-december-2025-from-seascraper-by-benjamin-wood-to-hungry-by-grace-dent-booksky-%f0%9f%92%99%f0%9f%93%9a/
Good luck with finishing your stack before the end of the year! I’m already thinking about next month’s chain, but here’s mine for this month:

So looking forward to Heart the Lover.

Great chain. Same as your first one, my books all have to do with the sea.

I haven’t read any in your chain, but I did read Seascraper which was inspiration for my first 6 degrees chain!

My sister is in the middle of Heart the Lover and I happen to be in NY visiting her so hope to bring it home with me. I liked Euphoria but haven’t read anything else by her.

I’ve been unforgivably late this month, having had a guest this week and somehow not getting organised enough to do any blogging. Please accept my apologies, will also work my way through everyone else’s posts.
