Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
Dinner Party: A Tragedy by Sarah Gilmartin
Why I have it: via Cathy at 746 Books and Susan at A Life in Books.
Summary: Kate hosts a dinner party to mark the anniversary of a death in the family, but nothing goes as planned.
I’m thinking: Yes.
The Newcomer by Laura Elizabeth Woollett
Why I have it: author Jennifer Down mentioned it.
Summary: In a hotel room on a sleepy Pacific island, Judy Novak worries. It isn’t the first time her 29-year-old problem child, Paulina, has kept her waiting. Judy can’t ignore the dread that Paulina has finally acted on her threats to take her own life. When Paulina’s body is discovered, Judy’s worst fears seem confirmed. Only, Paulina was murdered.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Love & Virtue by Diana Reid
Why I have it: mentioned in Sue’s post about Australian campus novels.
Summary: Michaela and Eve befriend each other in their first year at university. They could not be more different; one assured and popular – the other uncertain and eager-to-please. But a drunken encounter during O-week will force them to wrestle with the dynamics of power.
I’m thinking: Yes.
I picked out The Newcomer for my December preview but wasn’t entirely sure about it so I’m interested that you’ve decided to give it a try.
The recommendation comes from an author whose work I really admire, so I’m trusting that!
I like the sound of Love and Virtue and The Newcomer. I had some reservations about Dinner Party but it’s definitely worth a read.
They all sound Good. Enjoy.
