Book vs. Film: Mothering Sunday

Book (by a whisker because I very much enjoyed the film).

  • when the twist is delivered in the book, it was a swift punch in the guts. Somehow, the impact was lost slightly on film.
  • but the grief of the mothers, their children lost in War, required no words on film – their eyes held all the sadness.
  • the casting, the costumes, the sets were exactly how I imagined (which is interesting given that Swift doesn’t labour over descriptions).

So, read the book AND see the film.

Book. Film.
