1. This* is what I’ve been looking at this week. It’s driving my Mint Slice consumption up considerably.
2. So my review** of The Paris Wife attracted some thoughts. I should add to the review that Pauline was a piece of work as well. And the old saying “Marry the mistress, create a vacancy.”
3. It’s Miles Franklin time. Ace shortlist. I’m cheering for Hartnett and London.
4. Absolutely devastated that I can’t get to this event. Hearing Favel Parrett talk about the sea is very high on my list of things to do.
5. I was totally addicted to this for a solid hour earlier in the week. Just call me Marcia.
6. I haven’t mentioned Eurovision nearly enough today. You guys know Australia was allowed in, right? This is very, very, very big news for Eurovision devotees. It probably happened because we were like the person who keeps showing up at parties uninvited. Someone took pity and said “Just let them in…”. I can’t tell you the joy it brings me to hear the hosts say things like “The votes have come in from across Europe…” *pause* “…and Australia.”
7. Related: apparently one of the most Googled questions about Eurovision 2015 is “Is Australia in Europe?” Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
8. My Twitter friend (and now IRL friend) Nic popped down from Brisbane for the Real Housewives of Melbourne finale. Shut up. We all have our vices. Check out Nic’s very fine episode re-caps (I actually enjoy them more than watching the show).
9. There’s been a whole bunch of stuff in the media about politician Joe Hockey and a swimming pool. Which brings to mind one of my favourite television moments.

I guess if you were a huge Hemingway fan you might not be such a fan of The Paris Wife. I love the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and the book Loving Frank diminished that love a little.
While I agreed with your assessment of Ernest Hemingway, I still enjoyed (in a weird way) the book…also liked the fictional story “Hemingway’s Girl” by Erica Robuck. 🙂
Agree, I also ‘enjoyed’ it – well written historical fiction is a joy to read and I found the dialogue and sense of place and time in The Paris Wife spot on.

I’m such a Eurovision tragic. I’m going round to a friends early in the morning to watch it with him! I attended a Eurovision dinner last night where we watched the two semi finals and ate Swedish food!!
Austrian food even, I have Sweden on my mind, I want him to win and to them come over so I can bite him.
I think the whole world is rooting for Sweden… 😉

Is that equation really something you have to deal with? I shudder just thinking about it. And while that drew me into your post, I was chuffed to see your reference to the Real Housewives of Melbourne. MY husband and I watch all the various versions here in the US but only recently discovered the Melbourne show. Love it. I’ve decided Chyka is the one I wouldn’t mind actually spending time with. The rest, not so much. The thing I can’t get over is how much Gina looks and dresses like a drag queen. But not just any drag queen, a drag queen who is trying to be Jackie Collins in the 1990s. So far we have watched everything through the finale but haven’t yet watched the reunion.
In the future if you decided to write episode recaps/reactions, I would fully support that development. 🙂

And yes, I’m a person with far-ranging interests: contemporary literature to Real Housewives. And I’m unapologetic about my ace taste in everything 😉 Totally love Chyka (and season 2 is even better) but Gina really is my favourite. Wish I could say more in this forum but it would be indiscrete… I will add that Melbourne really is a small town and Gina is out and about in all her special brand of fabulousness. I was originally thinking Knots Landing but you’re spot-on with the nineties Collins reference.
