01. I never say no to a festival 🙂 The Now or Never program was announced this week – loads of free events (I’m especially looking forward to Matria, Einder and Burdi Burdi) and a bunch of others that I’m excited for (Crisis Actor; this talk about algorithms and music, and this one about eternal life; and this sound-bath).
02. A big week in my household – my eldest child moved out of home… to the other side of the country. He has spent a lot of time away from home before, traveling, but this feels different. Bittersweet – excited for his career opportunity but already missing his presence.
03. Cooking from my neglected cookbooks continues. This week the focus was Donna Hay’s One Pan Perfect – the winners were the zucchini, spinach and mozzarella lasagne, and the creamy lemon chicken and cavolo nero pot pie.
04. A funny walk down memory lane with Fatso.
05. Watched (again): Three Identical Strangers (Netflix) – I was prompted to watch this again after reading that Alice Carrière’s psychiatrist, Dr. Bernard, was one of the architects of the scientific experiment described in the documentary!
06. Watching: Started Mix Tape (Binge) – has all the hallmarks of the kind of television fluff I love, but regardless, it’s all about the soundtrack.
I know that feeling when the offspring leave. WA had never felt so far away.
Yes, just a plane trip… but… but… a different time zone!
Yes.
And at the time, you could get a plane ticket for $400 if you booked it six months in advance, which we did, for my visit in the winter school holidays and to bankroll him home for Xmas. But an emergency flight, if something was suddenly wrong at either end, was $1500. The Ex had shot through by then so we only had each other if need be. I got a second credit card for him with a $5000 limit on it so that he could get home quickly and then back to work again if he needed to. All my friends thought I was mad, but I knew I could trust him and he never misused it. It was a kind of insurance policy.
Welcome eldest child to my part of the world. He’ll be finding it just as cold as Melbourne unless he’s a long way north.
He’s in Fremantle – luckily he’s well-trained for the cold!
Well, it’s not cold. It’s just WILD, with a revolver belt of weather coming in off the Indian Ocean… cloud build up followed by heavy rain followed by blue skies and dazzling sunshine then back to the cloud build up. And so it goes. The squalls hitting our port-facing windows are also next level.
I hope your eldest child has a great adventure! I’m sure it’s hard to be so far away.
#2. From one mum to another: Big hugs. ♥
Thank you!
