Gasp, I suppose I’ll have to do this too.
Every year I think, no, I’m not doing it, and every year I think, well, I did it last year so I suppose I’d better.
Because I compile a huge spreadsheet of all the books listed in these lists (for the upcoming Best of the Best list), I have started marking the books that I somehow missed during the year or didn’t even know about, and that I want to read… needless to say the TBR stack will EXPLODE over the next few weeks.
ha! Wait till you see mine.
I’m sitting here harvesting titles for the long list, and I’m thinking, yes, that one goes into the shortlist, so does that, and that, and that…
And that one’s the winner… oh, maybe I should have a co-winner… hmmm, last year I had three in a tie, maybe I’ll do that again….
Imagine me as a lit award judge, I’d drive the others crazy!
Where’s The Kate List?
Will be coming in the next few days 🙂
Sorry..left 2023 behind..now scouring the Most Anticipated 2024 lists!
Here it is: https://anzlitlovers.com/2023/12/18/2023-anzlitlovers-australian-and-new-zealand-best-books-of-the-year/
I looked at the NY Library’s top ten for adults, but nothing there was even slightly familiar. I’m officially out of the loop.
I look forward to your best of the best, maybe down towards no.99 there’ll be a book I vaguely recognise.
I don’t care much for these lists, because they almost always pass over indie and self-published books, some of which are better than those published by the big 4/5.
Thanks for this Kate … I am doing just an Aussie one tonight, as I usually do, but look forward to seeing your super-duper list.
I love when you do this! Thank you once again.
Such a lot of effort, Kate. Thanks, as ever.
Thank you for all the lists. I will probably not check them all, but at least some of them. I tend to have read very few of books on lists, since the usually contain new books. Somehow, I am still on my TBRs and read very few new books. Hopefully, I can be inspired by the lists as well.
Wish you a Happy New Reading Year!
