01. Friday evening at Slow Poke cocktail bar (and then dinner afterwards at Pincho Disco). The view from Slow Poke toward Kew is one that you don’t get often. And, the Slow Poke Sling cocktail was exceptional. Also, is it crazy to have made travel plans for 2028?! Because my friend and I have…
02. It’s Europa Europa Film Festival time. Saw two films:
- Babystar – gripping! And terrifying and all too possible.
- The Testament of Ann Lee – interesting to learn more about the history of the Shakers but could have waited for this one on the small screen.
03. Watched: Inside America’s Next Top Model (well done Tyra for showing up but she did not come off well).
04. Watching: Vladimir (Netflix) – loved this book when I read it years ago and so far, the TV adaptation is brilliant (glad that they have pushed the satire element).
05. The 2026 Women’s Prize longlist – I’ve read three (Kitamura, Evans and King) and have Flashlight and The Benefactors in my sights.

06. University has started again – back to stretching the brain in a different way.
07. A friend drew my attention to this short film, Retirement Plan by John Kelly (with comments by David Sedaris). Simple message, so true (and it has justified my 2028 travel plans!).
08. Cooking: Ben Shewry’s tomatoes on toast. So good.

09. My diving instructor found a of shipwreck.
10. Listening: having a Goldfrapp Headfirst renaissance.
We literally binged all eight episodes of Vladimir last night. 4 straight hours of it! I loved it, thought it was great fun with fab performances.
I do like a good binge Cathy … but Mr Gums not so these days.
Great post as always Kate. I do enjoy them.
I wonder if I should add the Women’s Prize to my list of projects. Do they do a shortlist before the finals? I know most do, although not everyone seems to have a longlist. If they do, how long is their shortlist, normally?
