Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Barbie movie (complete with pink cocktails – granted, they involved Malibu – from The Budgie Bar). Seriously, this movie is everything. Hilarious, thoughtful, fun, a little bit sad (in a reflective way) – simply brilliant.

02. What was really fab about Barbie was that I went to a preview screening and virtually everyone was dressed up for the occasion, or had a touch of pink, or were just really, really excited. The shared sense of sheer joy was palpable.

03. I really don’t talk about spin enough… a friend commented a while ago that her perception of spin is that ‘it’s basically a cult’. Yeah. It is. Anyway, this week my two favourite cults collided – a Eurovision spin class! I loved it so much.

04. This week’s Scandinavian Film Festival selection – Camino. Excellent scenery combined with grief themes (although still no strong desire to walk the Camino).

05. Dinner with old friends at the newish North & Common – food was delicious but the location was next level (see the cells above the bar?).

06. Watched/ing: WHAM! doco (Netflix) and yay for the new season of Below Deck Down Under.

07. Listening: Who S**t on The Floor at My Wedding? podcast. Crass and laugh-out-loud funny.

08. Thought we would have done #ALLTHEYARRA in the immediate vicinity, but no! Today we stumbled across a beautiful stretch that we hadn’t visited before, including Rudder Grange and the Alphington ‘swimming pool’.

  1. Although my sister and I had Barbies when we were little, I don’t remember playing with her much. But I have to say, I don’t feel the slightest desire to see this movie. It just looks so… dumb!

  2. A busy week with a lot of nice thing to do. I have not yet decided if I am going to watch Barbie, but noticed that you liked it. I used to have a Barbie doll, and her younger sister Skipper (at least the name in Sweden). I have seen the trailer and it looks impressive.

  3. Barbie was so much fun! I’m slightly disappointed that nobody dressed up where I am, but there were pink balloons in the theater hall. Oppenheimer’s up next this weekend. Let’s see what kind of balloons… I’m always on the lookout for podcasts, so I’m going to try your rec!!
