Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
The Following Girls by Louise Levine
Why I have it: Susan’s review.
Summary: When Amanda Baker was 14 she found a letter written by her runaway mother to her unborn child: ‘Dear Jeremy’ it began ‘or Amanda…’
I’m thinking: Maybe.
Sinkhole by Juliet Patterson
Why I have it: Including in Beck’s favourites for 2022.
Summary: In 2009, Patterson learned her father had died by suicide. His death was part of a disturbing pattern in her family. Her father’s father had taken his own life; so had her mother’s. Over the months that followed, Patterson kept returning to one question: Why?
I’m thinking: Yes.
The Lovers by Paolo Cognetti
Why I have it: Not sure.
Summary: Fausto moves to Fontana Fredda, a small, remote village high in the Italian mountains, having left an old love behind. Off the beaten path, the town operates by its own rules, sense of time, and movement of seasons. Its citizens lead quiet but complex lives. Here Fausto meets Silvia and the two quickly become friends, and much more.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Thanks for the link, Kate. The Following Girls is great but the titular girls are my generation so I was predisposed to like it. Perhaps you have The Lovers because Eight Mountains was (justifiably) raved about?
Sinkhole and The Following Girls both sound interesting KAte.
