Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
Lucky Us by Joan Silber
Why I have it: Mentioned in The Details by Tegan Bennett Daylight.
Summary: Even though mismatched, Elisa and Gabe fall in love, and decide to marry. They realise the one obvious thing they have in common is the burden of their pasts, and wonder what that means for their future.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Nothing Can Hurt You by Nicola Maye Goldberg
Why I have it: No idea.
Summary: Campus suspense story – girl is killed, boyfriend confesses, but nothing adds up.
I’m thinking: No.
Jillian by Halle Butler
Why I have it: No idea.
Summary: Megan, working a meaningless job as a secretary, openly hates all of her friends for being happy and successful. She makes herself feel better by obsessively critiquing the behavior of her coworker, Jillian, a rapid cycling, grotesque optimist, whose downfall is precipitated by the purchase of a dog.
I’m thinking: Yes.
I loved Joan Silber’s Improvement so would plump for Lucky Us.
I suspect Silber is an author I should have read and yet so far haven’t come across…
I think you’d like her writing. Improvement’s the only one of her books published here but I’m hoping that will change.
These all sound really dark! Lucky Us gets my vote.
Now that you mention it… they were quite dark picks.
Jillian sounds excellent!
