Things that are making me happy this week

01. Melbourne had glorious weather at the beginning of the week (to the point where we we were saying “Spring!”).

02. Melbourne Writers Festival – have attended a bunch of events, enjoyed all of them. For the first time, I’ve made the decision not to blog about the sessions – instead I’m simply sitting back and absorbing…

03. New leaves on my bonsai – I haven’t killed it!

04. So jealous that the presenter got to say, “Are you there Judy? It’s me, Tom.”

05. Obsessed with Ku’damm 59 (and so cranky I missed Ku’damm 56).

06. V & Q books, specializing in German literature in translation (thanks to Susan for the alert) – the publisher has assured me that the books will be available in Australia from September 15.

07. One Tin Bakes by Edd Kimber – be prepared for lots of pics of brownies et al.

08. Only Wrong Answers podcast – wildly inappropriate, very funny.

09. Alanis Morissette’s new album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road (check out her book shelves in Ablaze!).

  1. It seems like the way I attend MWF changes every year. I have done years where I report on every sentence and others where I don;t even mention I am going. This year is somewhere inthe middle.

    • I have been a dedicated reporter but I figured that this year, people from all parts of the world can tune in if they’re keen, so I’ve just listened (and tweeted a few gems).

I have enjoyed having access to all sorts of festivals this year but I really, really miss the fun of the live event; standing in the queues chatting to other readers; author signings; the Festival bookshop… Fingers crossed for 2021!

    • We’re in lockdown, so I’m not out in the glorious weather as much as I’d like, but it’s lovely to be able to open the windows and doors. My tip for you? Soak up the sunshine!

  2. I always read your blog and enjoy your comments. This week I have followed every single link. Really enjoyed it thanks especIally the upcoming German book translations and Alanis’ new album. I’m currently in the southern highlands At Bundanoon and it’s freezing!

    • Thank you Penelope 🙂

I put myself on the mailing list for the upcoming German translations, so hopefully I will be able to post a reminder when they are released.

Stay warm! (It was another beautiful day in Melbourne – lockdown when it’s wintery is easy but as Spring comes, I’ll be cranky having to stay inside).
