Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye. This week, all three came via Susan’s roundup of August releases.
Wife by Charlotte Mendelson
Summary: When Zoe Stamper meets fellow academic Dr Penny Cartwright at a party, she seems impossibly glamorous to Zoe, who is, after all, several rungs down the academic pecking order. But Penny leaves Zoe a cryptic note, and a passionate affair ensues . . .Penny confesses all to her live-in lover, Justine, and it seems her and Zoe’s path is clear – or is it?
I’m thinking: Yes.
The Most by Jessica Anthony
Summary: 1957. Katheen, a college tennis champion turned Delaware housewife, decides not to join her husband, Virgil, and their two young boys, at church. Instead, she takes a dip in the swimming pool of their apartment complex. And then she won’t come out.
I’m thinking: Yes.
The World After Alice by Lauren Aliza Green
Summary: When Morgan and Benji surprise their families with a wedding invitation to Maine, they’re aware the news of their clandestine relationship will come as a shock. Twelve years have passed since the loss of Alice, Benji’s sister and Morgan’s best friend. The wedding marks the first time their fractured families will reunite since Alice’s funeral. As the guests arrive, they bring with them not only skepticism about the nuptials but also secrets and agendas of their own.
I’m thinking: Maybe.

I enjoyed Charlotte Mendelson’s The Exhibitionist. The way she wrote the intricacies of relationships was compelling.
What a great concept for a post, I might try doing this I’ve got 100s of samples on my kindle I should really go through.
Wife would be a yes for me too having really enjoyed Charlotte Mendelson’s earlier novel The Weekend
That was by Charlotte Wood! Mendelson is good, too.
Thanks for the shoutout out, Kate. I enjoyed both Wife and The World After Alice with some reservations. I’d be interested to hear what you think of the treatment of suicide and its aftermath in Alice if you do get to it.
I’m keen on the Anthony and Mendelson too.
