You Might Think I’m Not Even Trying (the 2022 TBR Stack)

Honestly, I did try this year (in contrast to last year when I let #ALLTHENEWBOOKS find their way onto my shelves).

I started the year with 356 books in the TBR, and I’ve finished with 362 (despite having read 85 so far). Wasn’t helped by a trip to Readings this morning and a quick audit of the TBR stack, at which point I discovered three books I’d forgotten to add to my list.

I’m not going to set a goal for 2023 but will continue to use reading challenges as a means of exploring the books I already own.

How’s your stack looking?

  1. You know me. I am incorrigible. Over 200 NF and over a thousand fiction. More fiction than I had at the end of 2021 but less NF mainly because I jettisoned some because they’d lost their immediacy.
My most recent impulse buy is Precious Bane, a story of a Shropshire lass (family history resonances) bought yesterday because they were talking about it at the Backlisted podcast.

  2. What a daft question 🙄
Every year, instead of resolutions, I pick a word for the year. It is too hard to remember a list at my age. But a one word resolution gives focus and direction, is easy to remember and call to mind frequently. It also suggests not a fixed result but a Work in Progress. You don’t set yourself up to fail in quite the same way. So this year it is Discipline. No, no, I wouldn’t mange the thigh high leather boots over my arthritic knee, no, not My Year as a Dominatrix, just constant reminders to not be lax in habits, self indulgent, and especially in these straitened financial times , more careful with money.
So that TBR doesn’t know what it’s in for!
(Mind you, I did sneak in half a dozen books before the New Year deadline!)

  3. Well I am marginally down on the tally this time last year – it would have been even lower but for a buying splurge in the last couple of months plus some xmas gifts. Without Sample Sunday (inspired by you) it would have been even higher
