Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. To say I am thrilled with last night’s result is an understatement.

02. And yesterday, for the first time in my voting life, my vote made a tangible difference (I have always lived in safe seats).

03. And in other news… First time in twelve years I’ve gone to my twice-yearly skin cancer check and had NOTHING cut off. I bought a lotto ticket on the way home.

04. My son is about to begin his studies in maritime operations. His course materials arrived this week, full of all sorts of exciting things like maps of the Bay, ropes to practice knots, and navigational rulers.

05. Watching: Conversations with Friends – loving it.

06. Looking forward to Everything I Know About Love (Stan), based on the book by Dolly Alderton.

07. Margaret Pomeranz’s review of Byron Baes is everything.

08. Bit obsessed with Better Co. puzzles (lots feature swimming pools).

09. Odd that after reviewing Inheritance by Dani Shapiro this week, I get an update from Ancestry which now breaks down my results into paternal and maternal lines.

  1. Feeling just a wee bit envious of you given the shabby crew in charge of my own country. Your Ancestry breakdown is fascinating. You can see the Scandi/Scottish link on the one side. Parts of Scotland are closer to Nordic countries than London, after all!

  2. Oh, the Margaret Pomeranz review is hilarious. I shared that on insta earlier today. I laughed my socks off when I saw it on The Weekly last week.

So pleased with the election result! (A high point in the misery that is my iso…I have freakin covid after having successfully dodged it for two years.) Hooray for WA swinging more than 10% towards Labor… that’s the McGowan effect for you… and for the Teal Indies taking key Liberal seats 👏🏻👏🏻
