Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye. This week, three new(ish) releases that have caught my eye.

Riptides by Kirsten Alexander

Summary: Charlie and his sister Abby are involved in a hit-and-run accident and decide that with no witnesses, it will remain a secret. They then learn that the victim is connected to their family.

I’m thinking: No – it’s a style thing.

Fauna by Donna Mazza

Summary: What if the child you are carrying is not entirely human? Set 17 years into a very recognisable future, scientists using DNA technology have started to reverse the extinction of animals. Stacey, longing for a child, is recruited by a company who offer massive incentives for her to join an experimental programme. As part of the agreement, she and her husband’s embryo will be blended with ‘edited cells’.

I’m thinking: Yes – it cane be my dystopian read for this year (and also on the strength of Lisa’s review).

Cherry Beach by Laura McPhee-Browne 

Summary: Hetty and Ness, best friends since childhood, have left suburban Melbourne for the first time to live abroad. Hetty is charming and captivating, the life of the party. Ness is a wallflower, hopelessly in love with her. In Toronto, Ness begins to flourish and Hetty’s life falls apart.

I’m thinking: Maybe – will wait for some trusted bloggers to convince me.
