Where possible, I read the book before the author talk.
Which means I have a LOT of reading to do before the 2018 Melbourne Writers Festival. Here’s my list –
- Where Am I Now? by Mara Wilson
- Eggshell Skull by Bri Lee
- The Shepherd’s Hut by Tim Winton
- The Battle for Home by Marwa Al-Sabouni
- Hush A Bye Baby by Deepanjana Pal
- Beneath the Darkening Sky by Majok Tulba
- Finding Nevo by Nevo Zisin
- Night Games by Anna Krien
- Trauma Trails: Recreating Songlines by Judy Atkinson
And a re-read of My Name is Lucy Barton for Sarah Krasnostein’s book group.

Like high school exams. Cram, write, forget. As long as you remember it on the night! (Cheat notes might help).
Realistically, I won’t get through all of these before the Festival. Sometimes it’s good to read the book after you’ve heard the author speak about the process but I find when that happens, I’m alert to different things when I get to reading the book.
I’ll be starting with Lee, Winton, Wilson and Atkinson.
If you’re anything like me, I always work best at the last minute. Good luck, nonetheless. 🙂
That’s a great collection there! And interesting to see them all side by side – it’s like a book cover design competition. 😀
