I only just discovered the neat little feature in Goodreads which shows the covers of all the books I’ve read this year (there’s a few short stories and a couple of books I noticed missing but you get the idea). So, here is my year in books:
Reviews of all these books can be found here.
I read 65 books in total. According to Goodreads, that’s 19,696 pages.
Of those, 43 were by female authors and 22 by male authors.
Sixteen books were by Australian authors (14 women and 2 men) and the rest were from America, Canada, England, France, The Netherlands and Ireland.
I read 16 books from authors I’ve read before and 49 books from authors that were new to me in 2012.
I re-read only one book (The Great Gatsby).
I read only three non-fiction books.
Of the books I read, 38 were e-books (I have a Kindle) and 27 were either paperbacks or hardbacks.
I won’t sort books into genres because what I consider contemporary literature or chick-lit, others may not. Nevertheless, I read memoirs, contemporary literature, lad-lit and chick-lit, a few YA novels and even one book classed as ‘gothic suspense’ (that’s me out of my reading comfort zone).
I’m too scared to count how many books I bought. And how many of those I haven’t yet read.
My TBR stack has reached dizzying new heights, despite taking part in the Mount TBR reading challenge.
The book I liked best: The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach
The books I’m still thinking about: Of a Boy by Sonya Hartnett and Foal’s Bread by Gillian Mears
The books I recommended to friends the most: Tigers in Red Weather by Lisa Klaussman and The Dinner by Herman Koch.
Happy New Year and thanks for stopping by.
A very impressive effort, Katrina, especially with all the other things you squeeze into your busy life! Congratulations and happy new year.
Thanks Kate! Here’s to another year of blogging!
I read The Innocents and hated it, I just couldn’t stand the characters and found them incredibly whiny. I’m looking forward to reading The Dinner, I’m on hold for it at my local library.
Couldn’t stand The Innocents either. It was ridiculous but got reasonable reviews!?!
It did and I like the original, but that one was one of my least favorite reads of the year.
Interesting reading collection. Good that you read a whole heap -49 of new authors too.
Meant to ask where does one find that feature in Goodreads?
If you sign up for a Goodreads challenge ie X number of books in a year (doesn’t matter how many you pledge) in the section on the books you read toward your challenge there’s a bit about stats – it’s in there.
You read some great ones this year! I’m so glad I found your blog!
Thanks Victoria, that’s lovely! It’s always great to find like-minded readers/bloggers.
