‘Me Before You’ by Jojo Moyes

My tear ducts operate on a hair-trigger. I read some of David Sheff’s Beautiful Boy on a car trip and I was crying so much that my husband asked if he should pull over. Then there was the music lesson/ One Last Thing Before I Go incident. And last month I watched a whole season of Grey’s Anatomy over the course of one week and cried so much I gave myself a three-day migraine.

So when there’s a book that prompts people to say “I’ve never cried during a book until I read X”, then I’m onto it. And there is one’ tear-jerker’ that came up time and time again on ‘must-read’ lists that I hadn’t read – Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. What’s taken me so long, given that I actually like a good cry? I thought it was going to be too much. Continue reading

My TBR Stack – You Decide

top-ten-tbr

I wasn’t going to participate in Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) this week simply because talking about what books are at the top of my TBR list is ludicrous given this…. The situation is made all the more ridiculous by the fact that I have 40-something unread ARCs in my NetGalley queue and let’s not even get started on the ‘virtual’ TBR stack on my Kindle.

But then I read Bookshelf Fantasies ace post on choosing vacation reading – there was a poll! I loved it! I voted! I stole Lisa’s idea! Here it is!

Please vote – it will decide the order of (some) of my TBR stack.

Note that it may not be the freshest, shiniest bunch of new releases but all of the books I’ve listed have been sitting on my shelf since last year and all qualify for my Off the Shelf reading challenge… And if I complete this challenge I’ll feel justified in spending up big on new books at the end of the year. Yay!

Top Ten Tuesday – Books I HAD To Buy…But Are Still Sitting On My Shelf Unread

I read great reviews (thanks fellow bloggers) and then hit Amazon and moments later I have the book on my Kindle. Such is the joy (and the agony in terms of my wallet) of online shopping.

I have tempered my impulse buying somewhat. Somewhat…

I use ‘wishlists’, Kindle samples and the ‘Want to Read’ feature on Goodreads as a way of reminding me of books that look like my kind of thing. But still, sometimes the need is too great. And I wish I could hit ‘pause’ instead of ‘Add to Shopping Cart’.

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish is the Top Ten Books I HAD To Buy…But Are Still Sitting On My Shelf Unread. Here are the books that bypassed my wishlists, samples and want-to-read lists and instead were bought immediately. Because I couldn’t wait. And yet, they haven’t even been opened…. Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday – TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new ‘top ten’ challenge is posted – anyone can join in. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books on My Summer TBR List. So although it’s not very summery in Melbourne at present (in fact, it’s darn cold), I still have a staggeringly long TBR list. Picking just ten will barely scrap the surface, but here it is: Continue reading
