Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Mid-week bathing at Soak (that’s their pic above). It was lovely.

02. End of an era – my school council duties have officially come to an end. And now I’m thinking ‘what’s next’ for volunteering…

03. One film at Europa Europa Film Festival this week: Below the Clouds, a documentary about Naples and the continued recovery of ancient ruins below the city. It was a really interesting mix of perspectives and visually, had a meditative quality.

04. Eating: Pepe Saya Brown Butter Chocolate.

05. Cooking: my family get cranky when I deviate from their favourite granola recipe but this brown butter pistachio granola is delicious! (note, if you’re making it, it needs less oven time than suggested).

06. Listening: Ron Sexsmith’s Hangover Terrace album.

07. Went to the Ocean Film Festival – six short documentaries ranging from the story of an incredible raft journey and surfing brothers chasing the most southern wave (in Antartica) to a wildlife photographer searching for wolffish in Norwegian kelp forests and the life cycle of Leafy Seadragons (seeing one is on my bucket list).

My favourite film was The Kelp Collector, about a woman, Sandy Webb, who documents seaweeds in Williamstown. Her collection is magnificent.

  1. Great joyful things as usual. I’ll be interested to see where your volunteering takes you next. Like you I always feel I need to volunteer. BTW you link on Soak is to the Pepe Saya product in your point 4. Would love to see the real soak.
