Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Italian Film Festival at the lovely Westgarth Theatre (I’m obsessed with the art deco features, including the tiled floor). Saw Diamonds – lush and heartwarming.

02. Three of my four babies are/were in different parts of the world (far from Melbourne). One returned this week – so happy to have him home safely from his adventure.

03.Was very sad to hear of the death of Jilly Cooper, however, thankful for the years of fun reading she gave me.

04. Walks after dinner – hooray again for daylight savings.

05. Watching: Death Cap Murders (Stan) and The Split – I started over (S1-3 on Stan and S4 on ABC).

06. Cooking: I think I’ve mentioned previously how much I love spinach… this Greek spanakorizo – so, so good.

07. I very rarely buy a new perfume but Kyma is calling my name (profile: ‘fresh aquatic’ and description, ‘…scent of the salty wind on the boat’). Side note: a friend told me that ‘kyma’ means ‘wave’ in Greek 🙂

08. Love Your Book Shop day. I showed mine some love (look at the edge of We Love You, Bunny – gorgeous!).

    • Lots of our UK/ BBC television was previously on the paid-TV service, Foxtel, however in the past year they have all but collapsed given the competition of various streaming services. All of the US stuff (HBO) previously on Foxtel is now on a separate service in Aus, as is some of the BBC stuff (some remains on our free-to-air and some on other services such as Stan).
I watched the first two seasons of The Split and really enjoyed them. I could have picked it up at S3 but figured I needed a refresh on the Stern family politics (braced myself for the tragic death of Rose’s husband though – it was traumatic the first time around and just as traumatic the second, even though I knew what was coming!).

  1. Lots of times I don’t read meme posts like Top Ten Tuesday, things like this. This isn’t exactly a meme post, because I’m not aware of anyone else doing it, but I like to read it because it always makes me more cheerful. It’s a good idea. I think sometimes I should at least make a private list, because I have lots of sources of aggravation these last few years, and it’s good to think of happy things.

    • You are correct, this is not a meme (although I don’t mind if others do the same!), but it is my regular post to capture life stuff. I started it during COVID as a way of focusing on the positive moments, no matter how small or fleeting, and continued because it is helpful for me to reflect on the week in a positive way (I don’t keep a diary or a gratitude journal). I frequently look back on the posts to remind myself of something particular, and interestingly, apart from a few posts about specific books that I’ve reviewed (which must be at the top of some search function), these posts get the most views on my blog, so I figure other people like a little ‘happy’ to end their week.
