01. It’s Life of a Showgirl week! Favourite tracks – Opalite (this is my stand-out – there’a an ABBA-Super Trouper vibe), Eldest Daughter and The Fate of Ophelia – gorgeous Esther Williams and Busby Berkeley inspired costumes and choreography in one bit. And yes, we went to the ‘release party’.
02. I commented to a therapist friend that Taylor’s song, Eldest Daughter, will be landing hard for many women… And the next day, I saw a post about the song by a therapist I follow on social media 😀
03. Daylight savings. So basically, summer. Yay!
04. Wild Life bakery’s lamb and labneh ciabatta, with roasted carrot, pickled onion and rocket is absolutely in my top sandwiches of the year. So good.

05. No, I obviously don’t ‘need’ an anchovy hair claw, but…
06. Gorgeous walk under the ‘blooming’ oaks at Banyule Flats.

08. Planning a little mini-break here.
09. My son sent me a video from his day at work (he’s on a super yacht) – dolphins! – and also told me that he’d just been offered a permanent position with the crew. So happy that he’s living his dream.

How have I never heard of eldest daughter syndrome ?! That is me to an absolute T ! 🤯
Me too! 🙋🏻♀️
Me too …
Me four!!
And yes I listened to the song thank you Kate! Oh my, just when you think it doesn’t matter any more, along comes ‘lambs to the slaughter’ and childhood stuff rushes back in!
I haven’t heard of it either. In my wider family we mostly discuss the middle child, the mediator. I’m an oldest boy, but reading up on ‘eldest daughter syndrome’ (and having just read The Man Who Loved Children) I can see now the vast difference between my position of privilege and Milly’s oldest sister’s position of responsibility.
That’s an interesting reflection/observation Bill.
The Man Who Loved Children is in my TBR stack – might be reading through a different lens given your comment.
Oh yes, why weren’t we warned?!
“It can be difficult later in life because you may have a hard time identifying what you want, or ever putting yourself first,” Strongin says. It’s hard—and even stressful—for eldest daughters to say no to something when they don’t have the time or energy
Seems I’ve prompted everyone to schedule an appointment with their therapist this week 😉
🤣
The anchovy hair claw is cute. The sandwich looks great, and congratulations to your son!
My son has a pretty great life at the moment!
That’s wonderful!
That anchovy hair clip!
I’ve often wished I wasn’t an eldest daughter. The unspoken expectation of who is/will be responsible is for life.
I work with people in a caring role – overwhelmingly eldest daughters!
PS I have short hair but love the anchovy clip!
It’s in my hair right now 🙂
You do need that hair clip! it’s gorgeous!
I’ve made it mine 🙂
Good work 🙂
