Sample Saturday – second chances, hunger, and a divorce

Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.

You Are Here by David Nicholls

Why I have it: Enjoyed his previous books.

Summary: Michael is coming undone. Adrift after his wife’s departure, he has begun taking himself on long walks, doing anything to avoid his empty house. Marnie, on the other hand, is stuck. Hiding alone in her London flat and feeling like life is passing her by, she avoids old friends and reminders of her ex-husband. When a persistent mutual friend conspires to toss Michael and Marnie together on the most epic of ten-day hikes, neither of them can think of anything worse. Until, of course, they discover exactly what they’ve been looking for.

I’m thinking: Yes.

Piglet by Lottie Hazell

Why I have it: Because it seems everyone has read it.

Summary: Outside of a childhood nickname she can’t shake, Piglet’s rather pleased with how her life’s turned out. An amazing job as a  cookbook editor; lovely, loyal friends; and a handsome fiancé, Kit. One of the many things Kit loves about Piglet is the delicious, elaborate meals she cooks. But when Kit confesses a horrible betrayal two weeks before they’re set to be married, Piglet finds herself suddenly… hungry. The couple decides to move forward with the wedding as planned, but as it nears, and Piglet balances family expectations, pressure at work, and her quest to make the perfect cake, she finds herself increasingly unsettled.

I’m thinking: Yes.

The Divorce by Moa Herngren

Why I have it: Because of Susan’s review.

Summary: Bea couldn’t be more excited to trade the stifling Stockholm summer heat for vacation on Gotland Island. She’s looking forward to spending time with her beloved husband of thirty-two years, Niklas, and their teenage daughters. Shortly before their departure, Bea and Niklas have a seemingly mundane argument over a trivial issue, and Niklas goes out with a friend to blow off steam. But as the hours pass, Niklas doesn’t come home. Bea’s irritation gives way to fear. She soon learns that though her husband is fine, their marriage is not.

I’m thinking: Yes.

  1. I found Piglet started off very strong… and then disappointed me. You Are Here I listened to on audiobook and I liked it in that format, though for me it is nowhere near as good as One Day, which is such a wonderful book
