Book. Because –
- the balance between each of the women’s stories feels about right (in the series, Sloane’s story feels overdone)
- the focus on the women, with Taddeo’s own story creating an appropriate introduction. In the series, the character of Gia is introduced as the researcher/ narrator. Gia has her own story. If you hadn’t read the book, it wouldn’t be a problem but I found the inclusion distracting.
- Maggie and Lina. On paper, their stories (and their traumas) were handled by Taddeo exceptionally well. Their stories lose impact on the screen.
Side note: would be interested to know what the real-life Sloane thought of her character in the series!
Three Women was written Lisa Taddeo. Three Women, the ten-part TV series, screens in Australia on Stan (interestingly, it won’t be released elsewhere until September this year). Taddeo wrote and produced the TV series.
