Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
Why Did You Stay? by Rebecca Humphries
Why I have it: Not sure.
Summary: Actor and writer Rebecca Humphries had often been called crazy by her boyfriend. But when paparazzi caught him kissing his Strictly Come Dancing partner, she realised the only crazy thing was believing she didn’t deserve more. A flood of support poured in, but amongst the well-wishes was a simple question with an infinitely complex answer: ‘If he was so bad, why did you stay?’
I’m thinking: Maybe.
Splinters by Leslie Jamison
Why I have it: Love Jamison’s writing.
Summary: Jamison examines her most intimate and consuming relationships – her love for her young daughter, a ruptured marriage once swollen with hope, and the shaping legacy of her own parents’ complicated bond.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Somebody I Used to Know by Wendy Mitchell
Why I have it: Keeps crossing my radar.
Summary: Mitchell had a busy job, was raising her two daughters alone, and spent her weekends climbing mountains. Then, slowly, a mist settled deep inside the mind she once knew so well. She didn’t know it then, but dementia was starting to take hold. At age 58, she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Here, she shares the story of her cognitive decline and how she has fought to stave it off.
I’m thinking: Don’t know – no text in the sample.

Do try the Mitchell!
I read Splinters and was in two minds. Some I liked and some I found very self-indulgent. She does write well though.
