Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye. This week, all are new releases I’ve spotted around the traps.
Body Friend by Katherine Brabon
Summary: Whilst recovering from surgery a woman makes two new friends who are polar opposites. What begins as seemingly simple friendships is challenged by what each woman asks of her, of themselves, and their bodies.
I’m thinking: No.
Penance by Eliza Clark
Summary: It’s been nearly a decade since the horrifying murder of sixteen-year-old Joan Wilson rocked Crow-on-Sea, and the events of that terrible night are now being published for the first time.
I’m thinking: Maybe.
Absolutely and Forever by Rose Tremain
Summary: Marianne Clifford, 15, falls helplessly in love with Simon Hurst, 18, whose cleverness and good looks suggest that he will go forward into a successful and monied future, helped on by doting parents. But fate intervenes. Simon’s plans are blown off course, and Marianne is forced to bury her dreams of a future together.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Penance was great (if overlong); would recommend. I’m awaiting a library hold of the Tremain for Novellas in November.
Even though I usually wait until the end of the year to buy from my ‘Sample Saturday’ list, I think I’ll cave in November for the Tremain.
I’ve never read Rose Tremain, she’s someone I always mean to get to. I hope you enjoy this one – maybe it will give me the push I need!
Oh! I think you would LOVE Tremain. I prefer her short stories over her novels but that said, her memoir was extraordinary. I can’t even suggest where to start – just dive in!
I have a copy of Penance but am in two minds. I’ve never read Tremain and keep meaning to, this one sounds interesting.
