Book. Because –
- the ending in the book was far more satisfying (because of the deep dive into the legal case)
- chronological structure (in the TV series a character was used as a narrator for flashbacks)
- Keefe’s writing. He really is so, so good.
Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe and Painkiller, the six-part series made for Netflix.
Loved the series, 1/3 of the way through the book 🙂
Radden Keaffe came to HomePlace last year to talk about this book and he was really fascinating, very down to earth and incredibly funny. Have you seen Nan Goldin’s documentaty All the Beauty and the Bloodshed? It’s excellent too and he crops up in it.
Haven’t seen that doco – I’ll be looking it up quick smart!
It’s great. She got addicted to Oxy and has set up a support group. She campaigns to get the Sackler name removed from museums and gallery collections.
Radden Keefe is excellent, absolutely.
Oxy decimated my part of the USA. Another book on this, Dreamland–my review is here, if interested (no pressure) https://hopewellslibraryoflife.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/a-hillbilly-boy-made-good-and-a-drug-war/
