Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
Feast by Emily O’Grady
Why I have it: spotted amongst new release hype.
Summary: Three women. Three secrets. One weekend (in Scotland).
I’m thinking: No.
The Happy Couple by Naoise Dolan
Why I have it: On my list of 2023 releases I most want to read.
Summary: Celine and Luke are the ‘happy couple’. Luke (a serial cheater) and Celine (mostly interested in her piano) plan to marry. Archie (the best man) should be moving on from his love for Luke. Phoebe (the bridesmaid) just wants to get to the bottom of Luke’s unexplained disappearances. As the wedding approaches, each will find themselves looking for a path to their happily ever after.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Where I Slept by Libby Angel
Why I have it: more new release hype.
Summary: The unnamed narrator plunges us into 1990s Melbourne bohemia – a whirlwind of friends and strangers, decadence and despair, sex and drugs—through the places she slept: a boarding house with drug-addled landlord, share houses of aspiring artists and petty criminals, and roughing it on the streets.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Keen to read The Happy Couple after enjoying Exciting Times, and Where I slept looks interesting.
I liked Exciting Times, but The Happy Couple doesn’t appeal as much, Waiting to see what some of my trusted blogger friends think first before I go for it!
