It’s time for #6degrees. Start at the same place as other wonderful readers, add six books, and see where you end up.
This month we begin with Notes on a Scandal by Zoë Heller. My copy of the book is part of the ‘Penguin Ink’ collection of contemporary classics. It immediately reminded me of a book that has been sitting on my TBR stack for ages – Indelible by Adelia Saunders. It’s about a woman who sees the ‘truth’ about people written on their skin.
Indelible focuses on secret and lost texts, as does The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.
Based on title alone, my next link is to Shadow Girls by Carol Birch.
There are parallels (and a title link) between Shadow Girls and Emma Cline’s The Girls.
The Girls is based on the real life story of the Manson murders. The Manson family had a cult following and they are referred to in a book I’m currently reading, Cultish by Amanda Montell.
I picked Cultish as part of my 2022 Nonfiction Reader Challenge. Another I’ve read as part of the challenge (and my first five-star read for 2022) is Rememberings by Sinéad O’Connor.
Where will other chains go? Link up below or post your link in the comments section.
Next month (November 5, 2022), we’ll start with a cookbook – The Naked Chef by Jamie Oliver.
I’ve only read The shadow of the wind from your chain. My guess is you’ve read a few from mine. https://whisperinggums.com/2022/10/01/six-degrees-of-separation-from-notes-on-a-scandal-to/
There were so many good covers to choose from for the Heller book weren’t there? It will be interesting to see how many different ones pop up in chains.
Excellent chain.Looking forward to next month!

You always read such varied books, and now you’ve just introduced me to six more. After missing last month due to Covid, here’s mine for this month: https://www.melindatognini.com.au/6-degrees-of-separation-notes-on-a-scandal-to-caravan-like-a-canary/
I’ve read The Shadow of the Wind but none of the other books. The starting book for next month is one of my favourite cookbooks and the title alone sparks ideas for my chain.
I’ve read Notes on a Scandal (loved it) and the Shadow of the Wind (It was ok) but none of the others. I’ll try to do my #6Degrees soon…
I enjoyed both The Shadow of the Wind and The Girls, and very much like the sound of Indelible. Hoping you’ll review it.
I’ve heard of several of these but only read our starting book. Here’s my chain! https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2022/10/01/tcls-6degrees-of-separation-for-october-1-2022/
Mine will be a little late this month, on Monday rather than at the weekend, but as always, a great pleasure to read about everyone’s links. I thought The Girls was a very powerful description of getting swept up in a cult.
I love your first link! I’ve read two from your chain this month – The Shadow of the Wind and Shadow Girls, and enjoyed both. Here’s mine:
https://shereadsnovels.com/2022/10/01/six-degrees-of-separation-from-notes-on-a-scandal-to-the-surgeons-mate/
For the first time in ages, I have actually read ‘Notes on a Scandal’ and scandals of various types made up my chain. From your list, I’ve read ‘The Shadow of the Wind’ but that’s the only one.
My chain is at

The only one of Kate’s books I have read is Notes From a Scandal, which was well done, I suppose, but I don’t always like what I think of a train wreck books where the inevitability of disaster looms over the whole story (not that I require a happy ending).
Rabbit rabbit!

Nice connections! I have only read The Shadow of the Wind.

Shadow of the Wind is on my list this month too! A popular choice for everyone to have read too!
The only one I’ve encountered on the list is Sinead O’Connor, which I listened to and found to be raw and wonderfully honest. Thinking about the loss of her son makes it even more tragic. I will be checking out others on your list. This is mine https://www.bookshelfdiscovery.com/blog/six-degrees-of-separation-october
I always love seeing other chains and especially if I find a book I read and loved myself, The Shadow of the Wind which I’ve also seen on another list.
My Six Degrees of Separation took me from Notes on a Scandal by Zoë Heller to Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery.

Indelible and The Shadow of the Wind have gone onto a wishlist.
I’ve gone cinematic this month https://thinkaboutreading.wordpress.com/2022/10/02/six-degrees-of-separation-from-notes-on-a-scandal-to-ladies-in-lavender/
All new to me on your list; Indelible looks rather interesting though.

The Girls has been on my TBR for the longest of time. I need to read it! The Shadow of the Wind is one of my all time favorites for sure. I actually want to read it again and then read the next one as well.
Have a wonderful October and thanks for hosting Six Degrees!

Totally fun connections again – I just love the randomness of this meme. It’s one of my faves.
