Sample Saturday – three memoirs

Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.

Bedtime Story by Chloe Hooper

Why I have it: Have always enjoyed Hopper’s writing and now a memoir…

Summary: When Chloe Hooper’s partner is diagnosed with a rare and aggressive illness, she has to find a way to tell their two young sons. By instinct, she turns to the bookshelf. Can the news be broken as a bedtime tale?

I’m thinking: Yes, yes, yes.

The Longest Way Home by Andrew McCarthy

Why I have it: Because I enjoyed Brat.

Summary: Unable to commit to his fiancée of nearly four years, McCarthy finds himself at a crossroads, plagued by doubts that have clung to him for a lifetime. He sets out to look for answers, and his travels take him from Mt. Kilimanjaro to rivers in the Amazon.

I’m thinking: Maybe.

Rattled by Ellis Gunn

Why I have it: Spotted amongst new releases.

Summary: A frighteningly honest story of what it feels like to be pursued by a stalker.

I’m thinking: Yes (gripping).
