
Book (although the house used in the film was magnificent). Because:
- explored the theme of loss in greater depth and complexity
- the tension between characters and the context for those tensions was clear
- the ‘romance’ was only one element of the book – not so much in the film (and even then, it didn’t stay true to the book).
The book does appeal to me much more than the film. It sounds more complex and interesting.
Yes, I agree entirely. I read the book first, which made the film disappointing.
