Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
This week, all three I’ve had on my Kindle for a very long time (and so no idea why I chose them).
Kill Your Friends by John Niven
Summary: 1997, London: Stelfox (fuelled by greed and cocaine) is slashing and burning his way through the music industry, looking for the next big hit. But as the industry begins to change, Stelfox is forced to murderous new levels in an attempt to salvage his career.
I’m thinking: No.
Who We Were by Lucy Neave
Summary: Melbourne, 1938: Annabel’s dream is to be a scientist. Falling in love is not part of her plan but she meets Bill Whitton. They marry and emigrate to New York, where they find work on weapons projects, experimenting with lethal infectious diseases.
I’m thinking: Maybe (do I want to read about lethal infectious diseases?!).
The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro
Summary: Newlywed Grace Monroe doesn’t fit anyone’s expectations of a successful 1950s London socialite, least of all her own. She receives an unexpected inheritance and in discovering the identity of her benefactor, Grace uncovers the story of the women who inspired one of Paris’s greatest perfumers.
I’m thinking: No.
I have so many samples on my kindle too – It’s a great way to test the waters before diving into a new book! But I agree, might not be the best time to read about infectious diseases!
That sounds like three summarily discarded to me — useful!
None of these are particularly calling me, but the first one in particular sounds ugh.
None of these would be calling to me particularly. The music one sounds like it could be rather tedious.
Kill Your Friends is entertaining in an American Psycho-lite kind of way but I wouldn’t rush to recommend it.
