Cathy at 746 Books posted a Reading Roulette yesterday, noting that it had been four years since her last roulette post… And I thought that it had also been some time since readers had picked my next read. I checked. Also four years!
I’ve picked six books from the big stack next to my bed – what should I read next?
The Hiding Game by Naomi Wood – Bauhaus, group dynamics, Berlin.
The Last of Her Kind by Sigrid Nunez – campus-lit, a murder, two friends.
Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner – the nineties, divorce, New York.
Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson – a family, secrets, history.
The Reading Cure by Laura Freeman – anorexia, reading, recovery.
S by J. J. Abrams and Doug Dorst – a library book, a mystery, margin notes.
You can tell how much I want you to read The Hiding Game by the fact that I didn’t vote for Kate Atkinson.
😂
Oooh definitely Behind the Scenes at the Museum! Sounds so interesting!
Love the idea of a Reading Roulette! and such a great list too
Definitely The Hiding Game. Fascinating book.
S. is on my TBR shelf, but it’s still shrink-wrapped. I liked Fleishman is In Trouble. But Behind the Scenes at the Museum is on my to-be-reread list, so that gets my vote.
Behind the Scenes at THE Museum because it’s the only one I’ve read 😂
S. is bloody incredible and a lot of fun. Just the thing to sink into, if that’s what you want.
I’m going to vote The Hiding Game not because I know any of these books, but I liked its summary the best.
I voted for the Atkinson, because I read it when it came out and absolutely loved it, and I wonder how I’d get on with it now? I’d be really interested to know how you find it.
It has to be Atkinson! Years since I read it but it’s still a favourite.
I really, really want to read S but I can’t let Behind The Scenes at the Museum go by without a vote – I loved that book so much!
This sounds like a fun idea, and you have some good books on the list. My braille technology didn’t allow me to click on the vote for some reason, but I would have gone for Behind the Scenes at the Museum. I’m a very late ariver to the Kate Atkinson party, as I only started reading her last year, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I think it would provide you with some good comfort reading.
Thanks for your comment Alyson, I’ll add your vote to the tally (Atkinson is winning).
I was also very late to the Atkinson party, reading Life After Life two years ago. I followed it with A God in Ruins – loved them both. Looks like Museum will be my third Atkinson.
I’m not going to weigh in, but I’ve enjoyed reading others’ responses here. Most of these are still on my own TBR (I’ve read two of them). Have fun with your selection!
Behind the Scenes at the Museum is not only great, it leads into all her other wonderful books 🙂
Well, you know what I am going to say: The Last of her Kind. It’s the best book I’ve read so far this year…
