Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
First Love by Gwendoline Riley
Why I have it: Spotted at Bookish Beck.
Summary: account of a volatile marriage between two catastrophically ill-suited people.
I’m thinking: Yes – the first chapter is unsettling.
Jean Harley Was Here by Heather Taylor Johnson
Why I have it: Spotted on this list.
Summary: Jean Harley is loved by all. Tragedy strikes. What becomes of the people she leaves behind?
I’m thinking: No (seems similar to too many other books at the moment).
The Choke by Sofie Laguna
Summary: Abandoned by her mother and only occasionally visited by her secretive father, Justine finds sanctuary in the narrows of the Murray River.
I’m thinking: Yes. Laguna writes from a child’s perspective extraordinarily well.
