I almost feel ill when I think about my TBR stack. It’s towering. And it just keeps getting bigger. It’s a good/bad ill feeling – kind of like what I call ‘airport stomach’ – that special nervous excitement you get when you’re about to jet off on a holiday but have to get up very, very early to be at the airport on time. Maybe I need a new kind of ill called ‘TBR stack fever’ – identified by a feeling of overwhelming anticipation.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is ‘Books On My Spring 2013 TBR list’ – it’s supposed to be autumn in Melbourne. You wouldn’t know it. It’s only rained three times this year and we’ve had weeks of 30+ degrees. It’s hard to think about bunkering down with serious books when it’s sweltering (I tend to read more seriously when it’s cold and read more trash in summer – tell me that’s normal!).
So, to my list. First up, books to contribute to my various reading challenges –
1. The Children
2. Me and You by Niccolo Ammaniti (qualifies for the Translation challenge)
3. The Easter Parade
4. The Monday Night Cooking School
Then there are a dozen books waiting in my NetGalley queue. These are the priorities –
5. Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald
6. A Thousand Pardons
7. Vacationland
And then these books that mysteriously made their way from the bookshop to my TBR stack –
8. Autobiography of Us
9. The Words of Every Song
10. Portraits of a Few of the People I’ve Made Cry: Stories
Please let it be known that it took ALL MY STRENGTH not to make this list fifty books long.
It’s not sweltering in Alaska, hee, hee. Happy reading.

I think I also have TBR-stack fever! I really just need to stop buying for just a little while but the moment I even think “book buying ban”, I go nuts!
Think I need a book-buying ban as well. I did have one during the last few months of 2012 but once the ban was lifted, I went crazy!

Did you read “The School of Essential Ingredients” by Erica Bauermeister? I love her writing and this Monday Night Cooking School is supposed to be a sequel, right? You’ll love it.
I understand that The School of Essential Ingredients is called The Monday Night Cooking School in Australian and UK editions… well I hope so anyway – don’t want to read the books out of order!
TBR stack fever. I’ve got it. I will never understand my crazy obsession to own MORE books when I have hundreds to already read. But whatever. I could have worse problems, right? 🙂
