Top Ten Tuesday – My Autumn TBR List

I almost feel ill when I think about my TBR stack. It’s towering. And it just keeps getting bigger. It’s a good/bad ill feeling – kind of like what I call ‘airport stomach’ – that special nervous excitement you get when you’re about to jet off on a holiday but have to get up very, very early to be at the airport on time. Maybe I need a new kind of ill called ‘TBR stack fever’ – identified by a feeling of overwhelming anticipation.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is ‘Books On My Spring 2013 TBR list’ – it’s supposed to be autumn in Melbourne. You wouldn’t know it. It’s only rained three times this year and we’ve had weeks of 30+ degrees. It’s hard to think about bunkering down with serious books when it’s sweltering (I tend to read more seriously when it’s cold and read more trash in summer – tell me that’s normal!).

So, to my list. First up, books to contribute to my various reading challenges

1. The Children by Charlotte Wood (qualifies for both the AWW and Off the Shelf challenges).

2. Me and You by Niccolo Ammaniti (qualifies for the Translation challenge)

3. The Easter Parade by Richard Yates (qualifies for the What’s in a Name challenge and also fills letter ‘Y’ in my alphabetical list of authors)

4. The Monday Night Cooking School by Erica Bauermeister (for the Foodies challenge)

Then there are a dozen books waiting in my NetGalley queue. These are the priorities –

5. Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Fowler – because #GatsbyFactor

6. A Thousand Pardons by Jonathan Dee – have loved his previous books. Looking forward to this one.

7. Vacationland by Sarah Stonich – um… Because I just love, love, love the cover….

And then these books that mysteriously made their way from the bookshop to my TBR stack –

8. Autobiography of Us by Aria Beth Sloss – ditto number 7 above.

9. The Words of Every Song by Liz Moore – enjoyed Heft so much, felt I needed more Moore (see what I did there?).

10. Portraits of a Few of the People I’ve Made Cry: Stories by Christine Sneed – loved Sneed’s debut novel, Little Known Facts so thought I’d give her short stories a whirl.

Please let it be known that it took ALL MY STRENGTH not to make this list fifty books long.

  1. Damn you Kate, I’ve now added another 2 to my TBR! Easter Parade was already on it, as was A Thousand Pardons, as you know. Happy reading.

  2. Did you read “The School of Essential Ingredients” by Erica Bauermeister? I love her writing and this Monday Night Cooking School is supposed to be a sequel, right? You’ll love it.

  3. TBR stack fever. I’ve got it. I will never understand my crazy obsession to own MORE books when I have hundreds to already read. But whatever. I could have worse problems, right? 🙂
The Monday Night Cooking School is called The School of Essential Ingredients here in the US and that’s already on my TBR. I’m a total sucker for foodie books.
    My TTT!

  4. Okay, totally did a double-take when I saw this was your “autumn” reading list. That’ll teach me to be northern-hemisphere-centric! What a great list — so much for me to check out! As if I needed more books on my TBR list…
