Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. A local sinkhole! I got there as quickly as I could (it was well and truly roped off) (image of the hole from here).

02. Two visits to the cinema this week –

  • Rental Family – very light and some sweet moments (reminded me of Shoji Morimoto’s memoir, Rental Person).
  • Hamnet – Oh. My. Gosh. Is it too early in the year to declare my favourite film of 2026? Take tissues. Loads of them.

03. I have such a thing for blue and white summer dresses… and these ‘disco ball’ earrings.

04. My summer visit to Readings to pick out books that I know nothing about (with the exception of Discontent by Beatriz Serrano, which was on my 2025 Sample Saturday wishlist).

05. Watching: Dear Life (Stan) – making me cry!; Addicted Australia (SBS OnDemand) – second time I’ve watched this excellent series.

06. Why am I sharing this most mundane thing…? Anyway, there’s a reason this grout brush is patented (because it works so well).

07. And yeah, I’m eating hot cross buns, even though it’s January.

    • We have a Woodfrog very close by and I am obsessed with their spelt loaf (and love their chocolate babka) but when it comes to HCB, I do live Baker’s Delight traditionals.

  1. I can’t wait to see Hamnet. So far, it hasn’t come here to the middle of nowhere. Our movie theater has mostly action movies and kid movies, so we only get one adult movie a week.
