01. My Boxing Day tradition is starting a new book, fuelled by treats (it has always been Quality Street but this year, to my absolute horror, they have been discontinued in Australia).
02. Despite the weather in Melbourne being cool and overcast on Christmas Day, when we passed the Macedon Ranges for lunch in Kyneton, the sun was shining. A lovely day (including the whole family attempting the Whitney Houston drum challenge – my mum nailed it).
03. Watching: The Bear. Yes, I’m the last person in the world to watch it (loving it).
04. And I’m obsessed with The Bear soundtrack.
05. Listening: Binge-listened the Beth’s Dead podcast. Crazy last ep!
06. My son bought me some gin from Broome – White Pearl Gin from Moontide Distillery – and it is soooooo good (tastes like a lemonade icy-pole in the best way).
07. A serious bread-slicer – game-changer.

My brother has gotten into baking and is really good at it. I looked up your link to see if I could afford to buy him one of these, but I can’t. Geezo pizza! Lucky you! There are cheap knockoffs on Amazon, but I imagine that is exactly what they are.
The bread slicer was my daughter’s Christmas present – she has been making sourdough for a long time now and it was time to get serious with equipment 🙂
I looked at cheaper versions when I was buying it and decided for the difference in cost, I may as well get the original.
Before we had the bread slicer, I was devoted to my bread saw – https://littlebreadwinner.com.au/ – it might look like an ordinary knife but trust me, it’s not! (If you’re wondering why the bread slicer then, two reasons: easier to control slice width, and the bread saw is geared for either right-handed or left-handed people and our house is divided!)

The M&S choclate and jelly mix was pretty good (although the white chocolate popcorn will be the last to be eaten… you always have to have something left!).
LOL! I watched all The Bear seasons and loved them all for different reasons or strengths. I also loved the soundtrack! The music is another level of perfection! Fishes or Five Fishes, The Christmas dinner episode, is one of the best things I’ve ever watched. But my personal favorite is when his sister is about to give birth and her mom is with her. Jamie Lee Curtis could not be surpassed in that episode! It’s amazing.
Agree that Jamie Lee Curtis is outstanding. I’ve just started season 4 and crossing my fingers that he can find a way to apologise to Claire!
The new wax paper wrappers on Quality Street are dull, how can you save them to make pictures? And the chocolate is not all that either, I only know cos our local shop had a box on the counter to help yourself
The new wrappers were rubbish! I honestly don’t think the chocolate has ever been outstanding but the flavours were things that you don’t really get in other boxes of chocolates or as a block (unlike Roses, where all the flavours are pretty much available as blocks).
Have you been watching The Secret World of Snacks on SBS? The episode on chocolates is about the battle for market dominance between Roses and Quality Street. And yes, they do discuss wrappers. I missed Quality Street chocolates this year too, but agree that the paper wrappers didn’t bring the same joy!
Hopefully the general unrest means Quality Street are back next year!
