Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye. This week, all three came via Insta book recommendations –
Sipsworth by Simon Van Booy
Summary: Over the course of a single week, a woman who is ready to die discovers an unexpected reason to live.
I’m thinking: Maybe.
The Retirement Plan by Sue Hincenbergs
Summary: Three middle-aged best friends turn to murder in order to collect on their husbands’ life insurance policies, but are unaware that their husbands have a devious plan of their own.
I’m thinking: No.
Very Impressive For Your Age by Eleanor Kirk
Summary: Evelyn is well on her way to becoming an international opera star … until she inexplicably loses her voice. Stuck in limbo, Evelyn balances her time attending doctors’ appointments and accidentally-on-purpose running into her ex. Then she discovers that her old high school is hiring a debating coach (no experience needed!) and realises this might just be her ticket back to relevance.
I’m thinking: Maybe.
I enjoyed Sipsworth when I read it last year (almost exactly a year ago!). You can read my review here: https://lesleysbooknook.blogspot.com/2024/12/sipsworth.html
