Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Lime Cordiale and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was brilliant. My favourites were played – Addicted to the Sunshine and Waking Up Easy, and they also played a yet-to-be-released track which was written for their dad (who died very recently). Not sure of the title but the chorus went “…in this house, you’re a household name…”. Obviously it made me cry. Special mention for conductor Vanessa Scammell – mesmerising.

02. An afternoon of wine-tasting at the Convent’s Wine & Vine Festival. I was designated driver so only had one sip of two things. The Rahona Valley Sorrento Moon spritz was really, really good.

03. Clocked 150 rides at spin! Woohoo!

04. Cooking: It always seems a bit eighties, but gosh, Chicken Florentine is delicious. Also these – ridiculous and moreish.

05. More food: walked past a Cookie Box and was seduced by their special for the month, the cornflake cookie. My nana made the best cornflake biscuits, with just the right amount of chew. The Cookie Box version was soft, and much sweeter than my nan’s but would eat again.

06.Watching: Red Oaks (Prime) – loving the eighties details.

07. A billabong walk as part of this year’s Birrarung Riverfest. Much, much bigger than our local billabong. Interesting to hear about the push and progress to have the Yarra renamed as Birrarung.

    • I’m not really sure of what the process is to get the name changed… anyway, apparently it got the name Yarra because early explores asked Wurundjeri people what the river was called and they said ‘yarra yarra’. Later, they asked about other waterways and got the same response, at which point they realised that ‘yarra yarra’ referred to waterways in general. The word actually means ‘ever-flowing’ in Wurundjeri.
I also hope that they can have the name changed. I don’t think it will be a huge leap, given that we’ve been calling the area around the river in the city Birrarung Marr, so people are familiar.
