Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Our final Melbourne Food & Wine event – a Keralan ‘banana leaf feast’ on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra) in Warburton. It was spectacular – tables winding along the river, live music, and tasty dishes (my favourite was the thoran – cabbage stir-fried with mustard seeds, coconut and curry leaves).

02. We stayed in Warburton overnight, and the next day did a rather strenuous hike, on the Backstairs Track. Beautiful tree-fern gullies (and brand new fronds) and towering mountain ash.

03. Collected a new batch of acorns in Warburton and they’re now in their winter hibernation (meaning my fridge).

04. Cyndi Lauper’s concert was superb. She is such a wonderful, weird soul (plus she played one of my all-time faves, When You Were Mine).

05. And Cyndi’s mate (Kusama) designed the encore set. Fabulous.

06. Delicious things: Piccolina’s Milo Easter egg and Lune’s four-cheese loaf.

07. Listening: Wet Leg’s new song, Catch These Fists.

08. Yay! The 2025 Women’s Prize for Fiction shortlist. My pick is still in the running – which will probably be the confirmed winner on June 12 😉
