Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. I love a night of angry-girl-music (Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers at Northcote Theatre, supported by the impressive Full Flower Moon Band).

02. Tough but important viewing at the Jewish International Film Festival with Führer and Seducer (pertinent given the US election news 🙁 this week).

03. And at the British Film Festival, my absolute all-time favourite film – A Room with a View. So good to see it on the big screen again (I saw it four times at the cinema in 1987!).

04. Watched: The Greatest Night in Pop (Netflix) (Note: I loved this doco but in regards to 80s-famine-relief-in-Africa songs, Do They Know it’s Christmas comes first for me).

05. Just discovered that you can get refills for my all-time favourite pens (I get through a lot of pens, so pleased to be reducing waste. Also get through a lot of pens because people steal them when they realise how good they are!).

06. Listening: obsessed with this podcast about 90s music 60 Songs that Explain the 90s (the episodes about What’s Up and Freedom are especially brilliant). So good to reminisce.

07. I loved the Edinburgh International Book Festival session on Long IslandCaoilinn Hughes in conversation with the author, Colm Tóibín. So I was thrilled to see Tóibín return the favour, to discuss Hughes’s novel, The Alternatives.

08. And I’m finishing the week with Day 1 of a reading holiday. Yes, you read that correctly. I’m away with two of the bestest people for a few days of reading. We read. We debrief on our reading at the end of the day. There are cocktails and Mint Slices.
