Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Shonen Knife at The Corner. So much fun (if you don’t know them, they’re a female Japanese punk rock band who sing about cute things like jellybeans, kittens and bike rides. Oh, they were also the support act for Nirvana, back in the day).

02. My Friday night: MTC’s Meet Me at Dawn (so, so good); followed by triple cheese toasties and negronis at Jolly Good; and a 90s club anthems sing-along on the way home.

03. Oh my gosh… so much to say about Patrick deWitt… but will save most of it for my review of The Librarianist (must get to that). Anyway, I laughed out loud when he said, “I just don’t think anyone should read Hemingway. Enough is enough.”

04. Watching: The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning (SBS) – it’s much more engaging than the book of the same name.

05. Listening: Strong Songs podcast – the episode about Madonna’s Like a Prayer.

06. Continuing the nineties-music-theme, I saw one of my old favourites play at The Croxton last night – Jesus Jones. They were as good as ever.

07. Given all of the concerts I’ve attended in the past two weeks, I can attest to the results of this study.

08. Hot Cross Cruffins from Lune.
