01. Fog and gumtrees for Tuesday’s swim (not my usual pool).
02. Saturday night – #ALLTHESTRESS with the Matildas. Then calmed down at a Candlelight Concert (the Invictus String Quartet doing Taylor Swift hits – it was brilliant). Then #ALLTHESTRESS again when I watched the last ten minutes of the Carlton game.

03. Bloom, MTC’s musical comedy set in a nursing home, was absolutely terrific. I laughed, I cried. And yeah, some bits were close to the bone. Anne Edmonds was hilarious (I can’t help but think of this whenever I see her).
04. This week’s Melbourne International Film Festival selections:
- Fairyland – gentle, sad, based on the memoir of the same name by Alysia Abbott.
- Blackberry – laughed and laughed. It’s an insane story.
- Past Lives – my favourite so far. Wonderful in every way. See it.
05. Don’t need new snorkeling gear, but…
06. Made a delicious pumpkin and four cheese lasagne.
07. Loving going to university open days with my son.
I love Fairyland. In fact, I was just thinking about rereading it the other day when I moved a set of books from downstairs to upstairs and came across it again…
Dovetails with a book I’m currently reading – To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara (Part two relates to AIDS epidemic), and also one I’ve just finished – Paperback Crush by Gabrielle Moss – which looks at the history of YA fiction during the 80s and 90s (and in particular, the impact of AIDS on teen sexuality).
I added Fairyland to my list, already have Past Lives on my watch list… and of course being Canadian I saw Blackberry as soon as it came out and loved it!!
I’ve been pushing Past Lives on my movie-going friends. Always tricky to know which films will cross over from the Film Festival to mainstream cinemas, and their sessions at the Festival are very limited (they have 270 films showing this year), so I have an intense few weeks of movie-going!
Fog does NOT make me happy. It means humidity, and I hate humidity. But hey, to each their own!
Absolutely the opposite of humid that morning! (it was three degrees. Brrrr).
That lasagne looks delicious!
Delicious and easy!
What a magic photo. Congratulations to the semi final in football, see ya there tomorrow.
