Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Glorious day for a walk at Organ Pipes National Park.

02. Another one of my babies headed off on an adventure this week – my almost-19yo is trekking in Nepal. The house is very quiet with two overseas.

03. On the Quiet House topic, someone on Twitter said ‘Be proud you raised kids with curiosity about the world outside their bedrooms!‘ and yes, it’s true. Really proud that my kids have the confidence and sense of adventure (and put in the hard work to save $$) to explore the world.

04. We did have fun sending live updates of the Brownlow Medal count to my 20yo Carlton supporter who was in Sarajevo at the time – yay for Crippsy!

05. The grand final was a truly dull game but we had it on the background while enjoying a delicious lunch with friends and then spending the arvo and evening in their pool. Really was the best grand final day I’ve had in years.

06. Actually, the best bit of the grand final broadcast was Robbie’s performance (pic via HS).

07. Watching: Minx (Stan) – it’s making me laugh out loud and Before the 90 Days (9Now) – for the exercise in psychological profiling (it’s frightening).

08. We have our MTC subscriptions all set for next year – particularly looking forward to Sunday, Prima Facie, Happy Days, Bloom and Escaped Alone/ What If If Only (because of course I want to see a micro-meditation on grief).

09. Very much enjoying this Piecework puzzle.

10. My acorn is close to serious progress.

  1. My brother and sister in law were home from Melbourne for a few weeks so I caught some of the semi and quarter final games, which were much more exciting. (Think Collingwood were in both games, against Geelong and Sydney.) Pity about the final.

  2. 3. We were just saying today how pleased we were that both our kids took themselves off overseas to live – he, 21yo, and she, 20yo – before they finally decided to settle here (that is, there, where you are, haha). It was the making of them really to have that experience of really having to survive on their own.
    5. Our Grand Final day was spent with two little grand children in Melbourne. Master Four told his father that night that he loved Grand Final Day. It helped that the game wasn’t much (not that, sorry about this, I care about AFL anyhow!)
    8. That’s early for next year subscriptions to be out. I think our MVA will be out very soon, but the theatre centre ones tend to be late October (before COVID. Now, who knows.)
