Book vs. Film: Crazy Rich Asians

Film.

  • a visual feast (whereas in the book the descriptions of designer clothes were tedious)
  • left out all the back-story about links between the families and didn’t suffer for it
  • the actors hit the right satirical note (it was a little flat in the book).

I did enjoy the fact that the story is very much based on the author’s life – whaaaat?! And I loved reading about the architecture (although it was really a book about fashion).

  1. I am curious to read the book, but the movie is higher up my To-Watch list than the book is on my To-Read list. Glad to know the film did a good job presenting the story.
