Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye. This week’s selections are all from this list I made at the beginning of the year.
All Grown Up by Jami Attenberg
Summary: Andrea Bern is on a mission to ‘find herself’ (even though it will mean behaving like an adult).
I’m thinking: Yes. I like Attenberg’s sense of humour.
The Reminders by Val Emmich
Summary: Grief-stricken Gavin meets 10-year-old Joan, a child born with the rare ability to recall every detail of her life – they strike a deal to help each other out.
I’m thinking: Yes. I already love Joan.
Lover by Anna Raverat
Summary: Kate finds a series of emails from her husband to another woman – it’s just the start of what she uncovers.
I’m thinking: No – the writing was fine but I’m not sure I want to be in the main character’s head for 300 pages.
Haven’t read the Attenberg but it’s on my list. I loved Saint Mazie.
Did you read The Middlesteins? I LOVED that one.
No, for some reason I missed that. One for the list.
The Reminders gets my vote – sounds great 🙂
All Grown Up was pretty good. I hadn’t read anything by her and was a little put off by the cover, but I ended up enjoying it.
I added All Grown Up to my TBR after I saw the author described as a female Jonathan Tropper.
She is very funny. I’ve only read The Middlesteins and I loved it (and based on that I’d say the comparison to Tropper is a good one).
