The Big Read – BBC’s Top 100 Books

I’m a sucker for those reading lists – you know, ‘1000 Books You Must Read Before You Die’ or ‘Top 10 Books to Read this Summer’. I can’t help but browse and see what I have and haven’t read. Sometimes they remind me of old favourites which I seek out and re-read.

Here’s a list that I came across recently – the BBC’s Bid Read – the Top 100 Books.

It’s an interesting list – lots of ‘children’s’ books, a fair bit of science fiction and fantasy and a few odd ones thrown in such as The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher and A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute – good books but top one hundred worthy?

I was pleased to see one of my favourite authors, John Irving, included with A Prayer For Owen Meany.

I’ve read 42 of the books on the list although some were a long time ago. My lack of interest in fantasty and science fiction lets me down! How many have you read?
