01. I have loved Rising Festival from its beginning, especially for the wintery focus on the Yarra River. This year was no exception. We started with the Rivers Sing sound installation (beautiful)…
…had a wander through a few of the free exhibitions, and then saw the incredible One Song, a show that is almost impossible to describe – a combination of music, singing, dance and gymnastics (the stamina of the performers was astounding).
02. I think my favourite bit of Rising this year was Ellen van Neerven’s poetry on the big screen at Fed Square.
03. Watched: Theater Camp (Disney) which was hilarious, and Bad Behaviour (Stan) which was traumatic.
04. Also watched: the Australian Swimming Trials (very excited to see a kid I used to coach competing for an Olympic spot – alas, he just missed out. Please note that I take absolutely no credit for his ability – in fact, fairly sure I said to his parents something along the lines of, “I can’t teach him anything, he needs a new coach”!).
05. The New York Times wellness newsletter this week, and their five-day friendship challenge, which started with a quiz on friendship styles. I am an ‘Evergreen’, which is interesting given this.
06. Cooking: pumpkin and four-cheese lasagne. Delicious.
07. Plotting when I can get to MONA’s latest exhibition, Namedropping.
08. These tights are terrific (I usually struggle to find tights that are comfy).
09. Truly splendid dinner at PARCS. Their focus is on ‘micro-seasonal’ food – the menu can change daily, depending on what’s available. Everything was delicious but the sourdough with potato peel butter, and the seaweed and rice crackers with tuna tartare were highlights.
