Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. A beautiful night to walk through a light installation – Bruce Munro’s From Sunrise Road at Heide.

02. Siri Hustvedt speaking about the therapeutic value of creative practice. I got so much out of this but particularly enjoyed the discussion around moving away from the biomedical model for ‘treating’ people to something more contextual. Hustvedt was in conversation with Jill Bennett, who pointed out that in Australian Indigenous culture, there is no separation of the arts and medicine, but instead there’s an integrated understanding of ‘wellbeing’ in relation to the arts, medicine, the environment and community. This ultimately led to a discussion about the interdependence and intersubjectivity of humans, and the challenges that those in the arts have of ‘quantifying’ or ‘proving’ the benefits.

03. Happy that there was finally some progress on Eurovision, however, the fact that it’s come down to Liverpool or Glasgow is not helpful for our Maybe-Going-To-Eurovision-2023-Depending-On-Where-It-Is plans.

04. No Feeling is Final podcast.

05. Cherry blossoms at Banksia Park.

06. The British Film Festival returns in October – I’ve picked a bunch of films including Emily, Quant, Living, Aftersun and The Road Dance.

07. Yay for daylight savings starting.

08. Planted our summer vegetables (tomatoes, zucchini, beans, peppers, strawberries and raspberries). Hopefully it’s a better crop than last year (which was dismal).

09. I love it when my husband does volunteer work and I get the thank you gift. Also ‘Praline Library’.
