Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. Two fun theatre productions this week – Heartbreak Hotel, a look at the physiology of a broken heart through a musical lens (image above). Science and music and a strong emotional narrative combined! It was really terrific.

02. …and also terrific was MTC’s hilarious play (written by Marieke Hardy), Losing Face. It was squarely targeted at women of my generation (Gen X) and focused on the wellness industry and ageing (that’s me and my uni friends below).

03. One of my kids has returned to the nest (after living interstate). Very, very happy to have him home.

04. Saw The Invite this week – perfectly pitched dark humour. Seth Rogen’s character was the stand-out.

05. Listening: The Buoys new single, Welcome to My Brain. Their new album comes out in October.

06. Last week The Intrepid Angeleno mentioned an app that tracks where you’re up to with various TV shows… I’d never considered such a thing (but needed it). Now I have one, called Sofa, which is described as a ‘downtime organiser’. It tracks TV shows, as well as films, books, and podcasts. I’m only using it for TV at this stage, as well as setting up specific lists for reading challenges (for example, I’ve made a list of what I want to read before the Edinburgh International Book Festival).

07. Other lovely things: eggs bene at Top Paddock with some of my oldest and dearest friends; Clinique’s Black Honey nail polish; Ben Shewry’s hot chips list (and the fact that I had some DMs with him re: another place to try); and this jam brioche made by my daughter.
