Things That Are Making Me Happy This Week

01. The week began with a Reading Holiday – away with two friends; I read two and half books; had two glorious ocean swims; and basically the BEST, most relaxing time. The friend who hosted us (at Phillip Island) suggested that it be an annual event – hurrah!

02. And in case you’re wondering, our team tote bags came from here.

03. On Wednesday night I saw the charismatic and wickedly funny Dolly Alderton speak (in convo with the women from the Shameless podcast). She had lots to say about dating, aging, gathering material for Good Material, and how her and her girlfriends can still have an in-depth conversation about an ex or breakup years after the event (apparently men don’t do this!?!).

04. Just one film festival event this week (!) – A Photographic Memory at JIFF. The filmmaker was in such an unusual set of circumstances, and it made for a really thoughtful and melancholy documentary.

05. Watched: What Jennifer Did (Netflix) – watch if true crime is your thing.

06. Returned for another sound bath. I sleep so well after these afternoon meditation sessions…

07. The Readings Monthly has brought me so much reading pleasure over the years (and let’s face it, encourages me to buy so many books…). Was sad to see that it will be the last time it will arrive in my letterbox (it is still being printed but must be picked up in-store).

08. And last, but absolutely not least, I saw MTC’s My Brilliant Career (The Musical). Yes, My Brilliant Career of Miles Franklin fame. Without question, one of the best theatre productions I have seen in years. Every single thing about it was sensational – the music, the sets, the masterful decision to lean into the ‘modern’ without compromising the original text. So, so good. If you’re in Melbourne, see it (it’s sure to tour Australia).
